Call Your Senators Today to Support Early Ed!
The Put MA Kids First Coalition is encouraged by the Senate Ways and Means proposed investment in early education and care in all segments of the early education and care continuum. We appreciate this first look at these accounts.
We ask the Senate to support the House recommendation for a $20 Million dollar investment in the rate reserve to stabilize the workforce and continued investment in the Quality line item of $4M to incentivize the workforce. We are on a persistent march to build quality programs for all infants and toddlers. Between 2000 and 2010 the early education and care budget was level funded without taking into account inflation. Approximately $110 Million dollars of under-investment to support our youngest learners has contributed to 30% turnover rate in this field. Moreover, it jeopardizes advancements made to build a quality system. Over the past three years the legislature joined the Put MA Kids First Coalition’s call to stabilize the workforce and invest in quality. We encourage the Senate to stay the course. Access to quality early education and care programs cannot be achieved without a consistent, high skilled and fairly compensated workforce.
Call your Senators today and ask them to increase investment to stabilize the workforce and invest in quality so we can realize the promise of the Kids First Report.
